FINAL – Wednesday 27th August 1947 – Station Park, Nairn
Clachnacuddin 2 Forres Mechanics 1
Before a crowd of over 3000, with gate receipts of £172 exclusive of stand Clach faced holders Forres Mechanics. In a nail biting match, Clach ran out winners by the odd goal in three. Forres fielding five of their Polish contingent put up a terrific fight in defence of the trophy. Pines opened the scoring for Clach just three minutes before the interval. Taylor put his side level 15 minutes into the second half. From then on both teams went at it “hammer and tongs”. The winning goal scored by Donnie MacAngus came near the end of the game and was a spectacular affair. The words of the Inverness Courier reporter at the time sums it up exactly: “The winning goal for Clach was a strange affair, scored from an almost impossible angle. With the game apparently running out for a draw Clach began an attack in which Siegel, Jamieson, Pines and Baxter all participated. Baxter close to goal, but unable to shoot himself, pushed the ball to MacAngus. The Polish backs of Forres apparently thought the ball was going to cross the byeline but before it did so MacAngus shot high into the net to give Clach victory”. So therefore the first trophy was in the bag for the Lilywhites.
