Clach opened their search for a Scottish Cup place with a visit to Speyside to play local side Rothes.  The Inverness side expected an easy passage into the next round but things did not go to plan.

First Round – Saturday 13th September 1947 – MacKessack Park, Rothes

Clachnacuddin 1  Rothes 1

Clach in the end were lucky to come away with a draw.  They were on top in the first half with Pines opening the scoring for them.  Gillies equalised for Rothes before half-time.  After the interval Clach had to fight hard to contain a rejuvenated Rothes side and prevent them scoring a winning goal.

Clach Team – MacDougall; Hazle;  Mackay;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  W Jamieson;  P Jamieson;  Pines;  Siegel;  MacAngus

Clach Scorer – Pines

First Round Replay – Saturday 20th September 1947 – Grant Street Park, Inverness

Clachnacuddin 4  Rothes 1

After the first game made no mistake this time.  They should have been leading by more than one goal at half-time scored by Gillies of Rothes who sliced a clearance past his own keeper.  Clach underlined their superiority in the second half with goals from Pines 2 and Siegel.  Sharp scored a consolation goal for Rothes two minutes from time.

Clach Team –    MacDougall;  Hazle;  MacKay;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  MacKenzie;  Siegel;  Pines;  Bartlett;  MacAngus

Clach Scorer – Gillies (Rothes) o.g;  Pines 2;  Siegel

Second Round – Saturday 27th September 1947 – Grant Street Park, Inverness

Clachnacuddin 1  Elgin City 0

This was a thoroughly deserved victory for Clach.  They were well on top throughout the game and should have won by a bigger margin.  Superb keeping by Elgin goalie Munro and an off day by the Clach forwards kept the score down to one goal.  Pines netted the winner for the home side with a fine individual effort after 37 minutes.

Clach Team –    MacDougall;  Hazle;  Mackay;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  MacKenzie;  Siegel;  Pines;  Bartlett;  MacAngus

Clach Scorer – Pines

Third Round – Saturday 11th October 1947 – Kingsmills Park, Inverness

Clachnacuddin 3  Inverness Thistle 1

Both teams were disappointing in front of goal.  Siegel scored a bizarre counter for Clach just before the interval.  MacDonald, Thistle’s goalkeeper punch out a cross but unfortunately the ball struck Siegel, who was following in, on the head and flew into the net.  The tie was still in doubt until eight minutes before the end.  Siegel scored from close in from a pass by Pines.  Another mistake by the Thistle goalkeeper gave Clach their third goal.  He failed to hold a cross by MacKenzie giving pines the easiest task of slipping the ball into the empty net.  Maclennan scored for the Jags four minutes from time but was too late to effect the result and a hard tussle ended with Clach convincing winners.

Clach Team –    MacDougall;  Hazle:  MacKay;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  MacKenzie;  Siegel;  Pines;  Bartlett;  W Jamieson

Clach Scorers – Siegel 2;  Pines

Semi-Final – Saturday 25th October 1947 – Princes Royal Park, Banff.

Clachnacuddin 2  Deveronvale 0

This was a comfortable win for Clach.  Resolute ‘Vale defending kept the score down.  Pines scored both goals for the Inverness side, the first after 40 minutes and the second nine minutes from time.

Clach Team –    MacDougall;  Hazle;  Wheeler;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  MacKenzie;  Siegel;  Pines;  Bartlett;  MacAngus

Clach Scorer -  Pines 2

Caledonian qualified for the Final on the following Saturday with a fine 1 – 0 win over League Champions and Holders Peterhead at Telford Street Park, Inverness.

FINAL – Saturday 8th November 1947 – Grant Street Park, Inverness

Clachnacuddin 3  Caledonian 1

Clach won the toss to stage the Final.  Almost 6000 spectators saw a disappointing game.  A greasy surface and a high wind made conditions very difficult for the players.  Baxter and MacLean were prominent for Clach who were not up to normal standard expected of them.  Caley attacks were very feeble.  Half time arrived with the score sheet blank.

The second half opened with more determined play by the Clach forwards.  After a clever move by Pines, “Hodgins” MacKenzie smashed the ball into the roof of the Caley net from an acute angle for the opener.  Good work by Baxter gave Siegel the chance to score the second and inevitably Pines got the third to put Clach on easy street.  There was a consolation goal for Caley when Clach’s Kane put through his own net.  The game was excellently refereed by Mr J Kerr of Glasgow.

Clach Team –    MacDougall;  Hazle;  MacKay;  Baxter (Captain);  MacLean;  Kane;  MacKenzie;  Siegel;  Pines;  Bartlett;  MacAngus

Caley Team –    Mapplebeck;  MacGillivray;  Wheeler;  Robertson;  Galloway;  Urquhart;  Campbell;  MacKintosh;  Armstrong;  MacKinnon;  Rooney.

Clach Scorers – MacKenzie; Siegel; Pines

With their second trophy now in their cabinet Clach were looking forward to a Scottish Cup appearance.
